Vitaly Pushnitsky
The Island

Pop/off/art Gallery presents the solo exhibition of the key contemporary artist Vitaly Pushnitsky "Island".

In world culture, the island as an archetype and as a symbol has several meanings: on the one hand, it is a space of isolation, on the other – a safe space or shelter. The images of the island as uninhabited, wild, and deserted refer to a familiar pattern from D. Defoe's novel Robinson Crusoe. Pushnitsky, like the heroes of the work, thinks of the Island through the category of loneliness. The new project will be the result of the author's polemic with the objects surrounding the master in his isolation. However, for all the apparent melancholy of the idea, the "Island" is an intention to establish a connection with the observer, and not to close, disappear or go unnoticed. The artist speaks more than once about total unity with his works. The exhibition will allow you to build a dialogue between the author and the viewer by searching for familiar states that are broadcast in the works.

Vitaly Pushnitsky works in a wide range of techniques — from printed graphics to large-scale objects and installations. The author is always in active dialogue with the world history of art, refers to the history of culture as a whole, but at the same time builds his own narrative and develops new visual languages. The exhibition will include more than 20 new canvases in various formats, large-scale prints and graphics. The painting of the Island project will be solved through the genre of landscape with elements of abstract moves. In a number of works, the easel will appear as the main character in the space of the painting. New works will not be devoid of recognizable coloristic and compositional techniques, organically intertwined with new pictorial discoveries and experiments of the author.

A new book by Vitaly Pushnitsky "Friday" will be published by the Popov Art publishing house for the Island project, immersing the reader in reflections on what is happening both in the exhibition and in the artistic thought of the author at the current stage of his creative activity. Two books of philosophical prose by Vitaly Pushnitsky have already been published for previous projects: "The Garden" (2022) and "The Forest" (2023). "Friday" will be a continuation of the artist's literary experience.
