Opening Day Party: 13 openings in resident galleries

12 March 2025
On March 11, new exhibitions were presented by 13 resident galleries. The pop/off/art Gallery presented the solo exhibition "Blue" by artist Ivan Novikov, a series of blue monochromes representing a picture of the future. In addition to the general accompanying text, the exhibition features author's prose and poetry written by curator Alexandra Urbanovskaya for the exhibition. VLADEY Space opened the exhibition "The Postman under whom the bridge collapsed" by Alexey Kallima, where the artist offered the viewer a retreat fr om the news into solitude and silence. The paintings appear as a kind of trophies — it is no coincidence that the author himself recalls Ernst Junger's essay "Going into the Woods", in which existential problems are considered in the practice of escapism. XL Gallery presented the project "All wishes fulfilled, all problems solved" by Anna Komarova. The project is based on a reflection on paradise, the limit of dreams, inaccessible to the living. The exhibition is inspired by the artist's trip on an expedition to Lake Elton in the Volgograd region in May 2024. On 11.12, the gallery opened Kirill Manchunsky's new project No Parking on Grass. The artist dedicated the exhibition to his grandfather, who suffers from Alzheimer's. The works created by Kirill Manchunsky within the framework of the project transform the viewer's habitual perception and offer him a completely different approach to the perception of such a sensitive topic. PENNLAB Gallery presented Olya Pegova's solo exhibition "Kunstyuk", which tells the phenomenon of false facades in modern urban space. The project continues the gallery's focus on exploring the development of the language of photography in the context of contemporary art. FUTURO Gallery, together with the Terminal A Center for Contemporary Art, opened the exhibition of Vera Shirdina, Vaca, and Yana Serobabina "Every Time you feel Strong." The project is based on an unusual game situation: the artists took several children's assignments from the book "Manual of Visual Activity" and reinterpreted them, addressing the topic of women's self-perception. HSE ART GALLERY hosted the opening of the collective exhibition "Dolls turn into butterflies. Meme culture". The project is a statement, as in the modern world, saturated with information and visual images, meme culture is becoming not just a phenomenon, but an important phenomenon for understanding social and cultural changes. Students and teachers of the HSE School of Design are participating in the project. Generative gallery has launched the collective project "Wh ere am I?/ coordinate system", exploring the points of contact between science, art and technology. Each work presented at the exhibition is an attempt to rethink the challenges of modern reality using digital tools and invite viewers to a dialogue about finding new landmarks in a rapidly changing world. The Triangle Gallery presented the solo exhibition "In search of Resonance" by Eva Arakcheeva. In her search for resonance, Eva Arakcheeva turns to the philosophical principle. The artist presents a new series of paintings "White Pulse", conceptually continuing the exploration of the facets of thought embodied in the visual form of derealism, a concept created by the artist. FINEART Gallery presented Anastasia Kuznetsova-Ruf's solo exhibition "Above Yourself". Each of the works has many connotations, which makes them not "rough-poster", but philosophically elegant. Kuznetsova-Ruf's artistic method consists in a sculptural approach to graphics: she sculpts white canvas spaces like plaster, turning them into bas-reliefs. Totibadze Gallery presented the exhibition "Plastic colors" by the art group "Air". This project is a reflection on the legacy of the Leningrad underground. Seven authors from the creative workshops of Alexander Nekrasov and Anatoly Zaslavsky: Anastasia Savoini, Slava Panichev, Leia Klots, Lisa Zinchuk, Dima Denisyuk, Stanislava Malakhovskaya and Natalia Pshenichnikova presented works through which artists explore the cultural code created by artists of the old Leningrad school of painting of the XX century. The BIS ART Gallery hosted the opening of Anastasia Shemyakina's personal exhibition "Sword and Rose Attack". The project presents a series of paintings dedicated to modern chivalry. In the center of the exhibition is a chivalrous myth created by a woman's gaze. The key to it is love, embodied in the image of a girl, who becomes an integral part of the knightly path. The a—s—t—r—a Gallery of Modern Art presented Alexander Kupalyan's solo exhibition "The Yellow Notebook". The project continues the institution's main line of support for contemporary artists.
