Open studios is a project launched by Winzavod Foundation for Support of Contemporary Art. It offers young artists a large-format platform for creativity, an up-to-date educational program and an opportunity to integrate into a professional environment.

On June 10, 2020 the fifth season of the project started and gathered 14 participants. To the existing programs "Workshop" and "Pop-up" added "Open Studios +", which were created to support an even greater number of both beginners and already known talented artists.

During the current season, not only the educational program was strengthened, but also there were more opportunities for individual and group statements - festivals, lectures, excursions, presentations.

One of the blocks of the program became artist talks - open lectures/discussions, which are held by artists in a free format and give the opportunity to sharpen the skills of public speaking and self-presentation, as well as to communicate with a wide audience. As part of this project, lectures by Nika Chernyaeva, Katya Gerasimenko, and Vanya Simonova have already been held.

Next will be Misha Godwin's speech, who will talk about the practice of street drawing in the context of contemporary art.

Together with Misha the guests will have a chance to reflect on where the line between modern art, street art and bad street art is, to understand how foreign artists use muralism in their artistic practice, and also to find out why street art is not modern art most often and what street art can become.

Misha Godwin

He graduated from the educational program of the Central Art Center (Voronezh) and is currently studying at the Institute of Contemporary Art BASA. He is a co-founder of a self-organized exhibition space and cultural center "High Five" in Voronezh.

In his works, the artist explores the interaction between street and digital environments. He borrows images and forms from graphic editors: dotted selection, tools from the program interface, alpha channel and so on. Then they are physically embodied by using aerosol and acrylic paint, as if graffiti on the body of urban objects and industrial textures.
