Anna Komarova
Quiet hour

XL Gallery presents Anna Komarova's solo exhibition, "Quiet Hour." The installation is dedicated to fog as a phenomenon. Some elements of the installation were created at the Svody Art Production Center at the GES-2 Community Center.
Anna Komarova's artistic research encompasses the relationship between humans and the environment, themes of memory and death, and the collision of the natural and the man-made. With a background in theater, the artist primarily works with installations and sculpture, as well as 3D models and sound art.
Anna Komarova's works are like boxes of secrets, which the viewer must enter to experience and comprehend the artist's intentions. For example, the total installation "Habitat," presented at the Ural Branch of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in 2024, was dedicated to the theme of home and the meanings inherent in this concept. Komarova's "house" evoked anxiety and vulnerability, a vague sense of danger and loneliness. The exhibition, spread across several rooms, was a sequence of environments, each evoking a subtle set of sensations for the viewer.
The exhibition "All Wishes Fulfilled, All Problems Solved" (XL Gallery, 2025) was based on a meditation on paradise and the desire for it, on the longing for a "Garden of Eden," which has remained unchanged in its own way from the Crusades to the present day. An installation comprising complex ceramic objects, the exhibition served as a poetic metaphor for the fine metaphysical line between life and death—a line that no living being can cross, but which everyone carries in their minds.
