Igor Volkov
The Desert of Wide Publicity

Igor Volkov is a unique artist from the town of Pavlovo in the Nizhny Novgorod region, but his work attracts a large number of viewers and collectors worldwide. Without identifying with any particular contemporary art movement, he works in a style he defines as "watercolor dark industrial." Although such a movement doesn't exist in world art, it exists in Igor Volkov's thoughts and feelings.
Another, but long-standing, musical genre can be added to the author's term: ambient (from the English word "surrounding") – a genre of electronic music that emphasizes timbre, atmosphere, and texture of sound rather than traditional melody or rhythm. His main goal is to create a sound environment,
a mood, or an atmosphere.
Igor Volkov elevates a technique perceived as light and sketchy to a monumental level, touching on existential questions and the essence
of watercolor painting.
For Volkov, watercolor is not just a technique; it is his philosophy, and its "secrets"
are directly intertwined with the nature of memory and recollection.
Looking at his paintings/stills, you find yourself in a desert. These are not sand dunes, but a desert of the soul, a winter landscape, and an industrial "something and nothing."
Snow-covered objects, hidden under snow, trains and people disappearing into nowhere, dark village houses, broken metal structures, dried hogweed along the road, and children in Soviet fur coats and earflaps... IMAGES within which lies "an entire world and cosmos."
