The Print Art Studio PiranesiLAB opens "Swimming Season". The exhibition brings together the works of Kirill Chelushkin, Olga Chernysheva and Maria Mitrofanova, in which the beach becomes a common space of action. The weather here is changeable: the wind is replaced by scorching sun, noise by silence, and a crowded shore by a deserted coast waiting for a new season.

In Kirill Chelushkin's silk-screen prints, the wind picks up a scattering of blue beach umbrellas, disrupting the familiar order of the summer landscape. In the "Falling Light" series, the main motif is a solitary umbrella shielding fr om the sun, and the color of each print changes, revealing the possibilities of printing techniques. By working with silk-screen printing, the artist not only transfers his graphic compositions onto paper, but also reassembles them using mass-produced printing, experimenting with color, layer sequence, and the surface of the printing plate.

The summer shore in Olga Chernysheva's series "Moskva-Rechka" is made up of many figures, each of which exists on its own and at the same time becomes part of the overall "social geometry." In the limited-edition photogravures, the silhouettes of the swimmers were specially drawn in ink for printing, and the artist manually added watercolors to the horizontal silk-screen prints. As a result, each print retains its own mood, and the familiar landscape takes on a sense of lightness and variability.
Maria Mitrofanova's series of photographs takes the viewer to the coast of Rimini, not during the peak season but shortly before it begins. The deserted beach and the geometry of the coastline revealed by the bright winter sun create a sense of time frozen in anticipation. Between the memory of the past summer and the anticipation of the new season, a special state of silence emerges, in which the familiar resort landscape is revealed in a completely different way.

"Swimming Season" is an exhibition about summer in all its forms: windy and hot, crowded and deserted. The final summer exhibition at the PiranesiLAB Print Art Studio briefly preserves the feeling of the season before the space opens its autumn exhibition program.

About artists

Kirill Chelushkin (born 1968) is an artist, sculptor, and graphic artist. He graduated from the Moscow Architectural Institute (1994). Since 1993, he has been a member of the International Federation of Graphic Artists.

Olga Chernysheva (born 1962) is an artist who graduated from the Art Department of VGIK (1981–1987), and in 1994–1995 she studied at the Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. She has been participating in exhibitions since 1987. Winner of international grants and scholarships, participant in leading art forums, including the Main Project of the 56th Venice Biennale, All the World’s Futures (2015), the Russian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (2001), the Sydney Biennale (2006), the Shanghai Biennale (2012), and others.

Olga Chernysheva's works are in leading museum and private collections around the world, including MoMA (New York), Tate Modern (London), Albertina (Vienna), the Pompidou Center (Paris), the Victoria and Albert Museum (London), the Russian Museum (St. Petersburg), the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), the National Museum of Art (Oslo), the Ludwig Museum (Aachen), the Museum of Modern Art (Avignon), the New Berlin Art Union (Berlin), the New Graz Gallery (Graz), the Louis Vuitton Foundation (Paris), the Daelim Museum of Modern Art (Seoul), the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Rovereto), Zimmerli Art Museum (New Brunswick, New Jersey).

Maria Mitrofanova (born 1976) has been a professional photographer since 2005. In 2004, she studied at the Academy of Photography, wh ere she also taught until 2006. She has worked in the genres of reportage and advertising photography for magazines, agencies, companies, and individuals. She has also photographed in theaters and on film sets. From 2006 to 2014, she was a staff photographer for the RBC magazine.

In 2008, she graduated from the course "Photo Project - from Idea to Implementation and Promotion" at the Photo Department, St. Petersburg. Author of the photo book "Rimini. Summer-Winter" (2009). Her works are in private collections.
