Modernism might not have been

Support of curators and independent communities is a timely initiative of Winzavod Foundation to support the creative community, which allows you to see in real time active and talented projects.

As part of a short program of Projects of Curators and Independent Communities of CSI Vinzavod.

On December 18 at 18:00 in the Vintage Hall of CSI Winzavod there will be a scientific seminar on Soviet architecture «Modernism could not be present», it will be held by the graduate student of the Faculty of Cultural Science of RSGU Vadim Danilov. The seminar will be held within the framework of the long-term project on Soviet architecture, which was initiated and developed by Ivan Sapogov.

From the author
We often forget that between 1955, when the famous resolution «On elimination of excesses in design and construction» was issued, and the celebration of modernism itself - the Palace of Pioneers on the Lenin Mountains - more than half a decade has passed. Despite the Decree’s stated policy of mastering foreign architectural experience, not all architects saw modernism as the only artistic line. A tangle of arguments, creative (and not so) searches - this is the image of an era. In his speech, Vadim Danilov, a graduate student of the Faculty of Cultural Science of RSGU, will try to answer the question of how the campaign against excesses worked and what alternative ways Soviet architecture could go.

About the lecturer

Secretary of the Society for the Protection of Modernist Monuments. Postgraduate student of the Faculty of Cultural Science of the RSGU.
