Mutant

In the project "Mutant" Oleg Dou disconnects fr om the topicality, fashion and pays attention to the constancy. What do we - the people of today - have in common with the people of the past and the people of the future? The 20th century has struck a blow on ideals, destroyed them, brought multiculturalism, behind which there is a sense of danger. And this danger is in the realization of a misunderstanding of wh ere it can lead. Reflecting on this, Oleg Dou asks the question: is it possible today to have an aesthetic ideal - whether it is a new or "resuscitated" old one?

At the exhibition, the artist takes a step to remember and recall the concept of aesthetics in its philosophical - original - meaning, which refers to what it is through aesthetics that our attitude towards the world and the connection of our consciousness to the world is expressed.

An important role in this is played by the artist's contrast between himself and the contemporary artistic process. Turning to classical European iconography, the artist at the same time criticizes the 20th century, which gave up the idea of absolutism. Oleg Dou replaces the cynicism of postmodernism with humor and brings to the fore erotic esoterism, which sounds like something that cannot be found in a museum of contemporary art or other institution.

The exhibition "Mutant" turns to the personal feelings of the artist. His aesthetic experience is connected with the awareness of his own limb, thanks to which it becomes possible. But also very important is the viewer's view, who through his experience perceives this aesthetic and brings it to the level of his reality. The artist, on the other hand, tries to create a so-called "jamais vu" - something that a person has never seen or experienced before.

Oleg Dou (born in 1983) is one of the brightest representatives of contemporary Russian photography on the world art scene. He became famous thanks to his large-format portraits, on which people's faces are like frozen masks, devoid of emotions. In 2007, Oleg Dow was recognized as "Photographer of the Year in a Special Category" in the prestigious International Photography Awards. In 2009, he received the Arte Laguna Art Prize for Best Young Photographer. Today, Oleg Dow's works represent leading galleries in France, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, Russia and America. In 2011, Artprice included the artist in the Top 3 of the most successfully sold authors up to 30 years at the auction.
